Part 48 Subpart A – New Underground Miners

These 32-hour initial and 8-hour refresher courses are designed for new underground miners, including the mining of coal and metals.  The initial course does not include the final 8 hours to be conducted at mine site following the completion of the 32-hour initial training.  This course covers miners rights, recognizing and reporting hazards, work duties, transportation and communication, barricading, and other requirements of the 30 CFR Part 48A.

Part 48 Subpart B – New Surface Miner

These 24-hour initial and 8-hour refresher courses are designed for new surface workers on underground mine sites.  This course covers miners rights, recognizing and reporting hazards, work duties, transportation and communication, escape and emergency evacuation plans, fire warning and firefighting and other requirements of the 30 CFR Part 48B.

Part 46 – New Aggregate Miner

These 24-hour initial and 8-hour refresher courses are intended for workers in the aggregate industry (sand, gravel, lime, cement).  Training includes an introduction to the work environment, miners rights and responsibilities, recognizing and reporting hazards, emergency medical procedures, evacuation plans, fire warning and firefighting, and other requirements of the 30 CFR Part 46.

Experienced Miners

This 8-hour experienced miner training applies to miners who are newly employed experienced miner, transferred to the mine from another mine location as experienced miners, experienced underground miners transferred from the surface to the underground, or experienced surface miners transferred from the underground to surface; and returning to the mine after an absence of more than 12 months. No minimum time requirement for experienced miner training is required.  This course will be geared to the hazards of the task and the individuals involved, regulated by the 30 CFR Part 48.
