Qualitative Respirator Fit Testing – Irritant Smoke

This one-hour hands-on course provides the knowledge and practical skills necessary to conduct qualitative respirator fit testing using the OSHA-approved irritant smoke (stannic chloride) protocol. Participants will review respirator selection and preparation, user seal checks, sensitivity screening, proper use of smoke tubes and test equipment, required fit-test exercises, pass/fail criteria, and documentation requirements. The course includes practical instruction for fit testing N95 filtering facepiece respirators and full-face respirators and emphasizes safe handling and ventilation when using irritant smoke. Training is based on the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.134 and its mandatory Appendix A.
